Ms. Emmett practices primarily in the areas of labor and employment law, and represents management in the full range of issues related to the employment relationship.

Ms. Emmett graduated magna cum laude from the University of Richmond, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.She obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Tulane Law School. During law school, Ms. Emmett served as Managing Editor for the Tulane Maritime Law Journal and had several articles published therein.

Prior to beginning her practice in the employment arena, Ms. Emmett served as law clerk to Justice James W. Smith of the Supreme Court of Mississippi. Ms. Emmett has considerable experience representing nationwide retail employers in all phases of employment litigation in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Ms. Emmett is active in the New Orleans community. She serves as a parent volunteer for Trinity Episcopal School and Church, is active with the Preservation Resource Center, and is Chair of the New Orleans University of Richmond Alumni Association.




REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE:

Ms. Emmett works with companies of all sizes, from Fortune 500 companies, to small privately held companies. She has extensive experience litigating all types of employment claims in federal and state courts, as well as before the EEOC and state agencies, on behalf of employers arising under Title VII, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, and other federal and state laws. Also, over the years, she has gained considerable experience in handling employment matters appealed to federal appellate courts. In addition, she routinely works with employers drafting and reviewing non-compete and severance agreements and handling litigation related to enforcing such agreements.

In addition to defending employers in litigation, Ms. Emmett regularly counsels managers on day-to-day matters regarding
hiring, performance issues, terminations, recordkeeping, and other human resources issues. Ms. Emmett also reviews and
drafts employment handbooks and policies.

Recent representative matters include:

Summary judgment on behalf of large chemical company in a whistleblower case

Trial verdict for national hotel group in FMLA retaliation case

Summary judgment on behalf of national auto service company in case involving claims of race, national origin, disability, and FMLA discrimination and retaliation

Summary judgment on behalf of large medical device company in a breach of contract case

Obtained dismissal of Title VII claims on behalf of a national milk company

Represent employers against former employees and competitors in claims of breach of non-competition agreements and unfair competition
