Mr. Lonker focuses his practice in the area of Professional Liability. Mr. Lonker also represents attorneys before the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, and is called upon for advice and counsel by attorneys who find themselves in pre-suit ethical and potential liability dilemmas. He also represents insured individuals and entities in automobile, casualty, and commercial liability matters. He has also represented insurance companies on coverage matters and small businesses in advisory and litigation capacities. He has advised clients on employment and business related issues including wrongful termination, Unfair Trade Practices Act, employment policy handbooks, and the validity and scope of non-competition agreements. He has defended small to medium sized businesses in OSHA discrimination cases, EEOC sexual harassment matters, and racial discrimination claims. He has also advised on the drafting of a sexual harassment policy for a small company, and proposed and implemented a successful plan challenging the attempted unionization of a small business. Mr. Lonker was also recently appointed as an ad hoc traffic judge in First Parish Court for Jefferson Parish, and currently sits on a one month rotation yearly.
A graduate of the University of Delaware and California Western School of Law in San Diego, Mr. Lonker served on the Law Review, and published an article, General Dynamics v. Superior Court: One Giant Step Forward For In-House Counsel or One Small Step Back to the Status Quo: California Western Law Review Vol. 31 No.2; Spring 1995. His article was cited in National Law Journal's Worth Reading Section, and by the Tennessee Supreme Court in Julia Beth Crews v. Buckman Laboratories, 78 S.W.3d 852 (Tenn. 2002), and the California Court of Appeal, Second District, in Fox Searchlight Pictures, Inc. v. Gia Paladino, (2001) 89 Cal.App.4th 294.
