Frilot Attorneys Achieve Significant Victory in Maritime Case
Frilot attorneys Norman C. Sullivan, Jr. and W. Jacob Gardner, Jr. recently obtained a favorable jury verdict in a maritime matter where the plaintiff sought to recover for personal injuries pursuant to the Jones Act. The trial took place in State Court in St. Mary Parish over six days.
The plaintiff was pursuing claims for multiple orthopedic injuries to his cervical and lumbar spine, wrist, and shoulder. He had undergone two surgeries at the time of trial, and his treating physicians had made recommendations for multiple future surgeries.
The jury entered an award for substantially less than the plaintiff requested during his closing argument and substantially less than the plaintiff’s lowest pre-trial settlement demand. The outcome was particularly satisfying for Norm and Jacob because the insured is a long-standing client.
